Childrens Birthday Cakes : 8 Homemade Minnie Mouse Cakes

October 13th, 2007

If you’re looking through ideas for childrens birthday cakes and have a child who loves Minnie Mouse, here are eight cute ideas. Recently I came across them while looking around Coolest-Birthday-Cakes.com.

The site features a selection of different childrens birthday cakes submitted by readers from all over. This selection of Minnie Mouse cakes look pretty easy.

From what I can tell most used a character cake pan to shortcut the process. I found most of them cute, while a couple I thought looked a bit awkward (not to sound critical, just an honest impression).

Here’s what one of the submitters had to say:

“I bought the cake pan for the cake, which made it easier for me since I was a beginner in doing this. It turned out perfectly and then I decorated with butter icing and all of it with a Rosetti tube. I enjoyed doing it so much that I did 2 of them and dressed Minnie in different clothes.”

All in all I thought these cakes were pretty cute and definitely better than just doing a plain old sheet cake. So if you are a beginner, these would be great to start with.

Two Super-Easy Childrens Birthday Cakes That Are Too Cute

October 12th, 2007

Childrens birthday cakes only have one major competitor during the typical birthday celebration: presents, and for all the obvious reasons.

That’s why I was completely taken with what my girlfriend, Tish, did for her little girl’s 5th birthday a couple of weeks ago. The birthday cake look like a big present, and it was adorable!Birthday Cake Ideas

Of course I had to ask who made it (I’m so nosey). I was pretty amazed when she told

me that she had. She told me she had stumbled across a blog post at TheCookDude.com (I know, weird name) that gave all the instructions. In fact she told me it was one of the easiest childrens birthday cakes she had ever made.

Well, that was enough for me. I knew you had to know about it too. So here’s a link to the blog post she used (I had to hunt for this a little).

By the way, for a related idea, I was was browsing through my well-worn copy of 50 Easy Party Cakes and found a really easy “Goody Bag Cake.” Basically you take a square cake and wrap rolled fondant icing around it and have pieces of candy overflowing it. It looks very easy and very delicious. If you don’t know what fondant is, it’s basically thin pre-made icing that you can color and shape. You can find it at baking stores or online at places like KitchenKrafts.com.

So, there are two childrens birthday cakes that you can add to your idea list. Happy baking!

October 9th, 2007

I’m always on the lookout for tips for childrens birthday cakes. Recently I came across a neat article by Mike Dougherty at EzineArticles.com.

According to Mike, you can create a wonderful themed birthday cake for your child using a pre-made cake and decorating it with edible and non-edible toppers, pictures, and other themed pieces.

I think this is a wonderful idea. As much as I like to consider myself the master of baking, this “little” shortcut will make my life sooo much easier (I’ve got four kids, afterall).

Here’s what Mike has to say:

“When you combine edible cake art, edible cake toppers, non-edible cake
toppers, cake pics and cake rings and theme candles to a basic ready
made cake, you will quickly see that your cake is now a one-of-a-kind, creative 3D masterpiece that your child will love.”

So no matter your level of experience or baking prowess, using Mike’s very handy tips, you can create childrens birthday cakes that’ll sure to be winners every time. Not to mention, you can knock it out in about seven minutes!

P.S. I just found a wonderful book at Amazon on baking childrens birthday cakes. It’s called 50 Easy Party Cakes, and it really is super! I got so many ideas from it. Though some of them don’t seem as easy as the book title suggests, there are more than enough for the “mere mortal moms” out there. Anyway, I thought you should check it out.
